What's covered.

Four real failure modes. Two are physical, two are logistical. We pay on all four.

In-transit damage

The retailer shipped the item. The carrier broke it. Evidence: unboxing photos + 30-second video.

Lost shipment

Carrier marks delivered, never arrived. Or carrier loses it in-transit. Evidence: tracking record + recipient affidavit.

Wrong item shipped

You ordered a stand mixer; the box held a toaster. Evidence: photo of received item next to the receipt.

Porch piracy

Delivered to address but stolen before pickup. Evidence: doorbell footage if available + police report number.

Buyer's remorse

Recipient changed their mind. Use the retailer's return policy — that's not insurance.

Cosmetic-only damage

Box dented, item works fine. Insurance pays for failures, not unboxing aesthetics.

Recall items

If the manufacturer recalled it, the manufacturer owes the refund — not us.

Normal wear & tear

Six months later it broke. Use the warranty — that's not what insurance is for.

How a claim actually works.

The recipient initiates. The sender is informed but not required. We re-order before we refund.

01

Recipient files

Tap "File claim" on the gift card in their inbox. Photo + 30-second video required. Three-question form, ninety seconds.

02

We review

Our team verifies the evidence against retailer + carrier records. Most claims clear in 5 business days; complex ones up to 21.

03

Auto-reorder

Where the item is still in stock at the original retailer, we re-order it and ship to the same address. The recipient never sees the original price.

04

Cash if not

If the item is out of stock, discontinued, or the recipient prefers cash, we issue the gift's value to the recipient via their preferred payout method.

Group buys: one policy, one recipient.

When 12 friends chip in for a $1,200 stand mixer, we don't issue 12 mini-policies. The insured party is the recipient, the policy is single, and the claim is recipient-initiated. Contributors don't file individually — that would be a fraud surface.

Common questions.

Who underwrites the policy?

A licensed insurance partner backs each policy. Gish acts as the distribution channel — we sell the policy, the partner underwrites the risk. Premium goes to the carrier; we earn a small distribution fee. We'll publish the carrier name once the partnership is finalised.

Why is the floor $50?

Below $50, the cost of processing a claim exceeds the payout. It's cheaper for everyone to just re-buy a $30 item than to file a claim, gather evidence, and wait three weeks. The math doesn't work below the floor.

Why does the recipient file, not the sender?

Because the recipient holds the evidence — they're the one with the broken box, the empty doorstep, the wrong item in their hands. Sender-initiated claims would force them to reach out and ask "did your gift arrive okay?" — defeating the surprise. We just notify the sender after the claim is filed.

What's "auto-reorder primary, cash fallback" actually mean?

If the original SKU is still in stock at the original retailer, we re-buy it and ship a replacement. If it isn't, we offer cash to the recipient at the original gift's value. Most cases (around 78% in our pilot) resolve via auto-reorder; the rest take the cash. Recipient can always opt for cash even if a re-order is available.

Is insurance auto-added at checkout?

No. It's an opt-in line item, disclosed by name and price, never pre-checked. Your default at every checkout is no insurance.

How is this different from?

The Guarantee covers outcome funds and cause campaigns — escrow protection if a verified payee never receives the funds. Insurance covers physical gifts — the four named perils above. Two products, two surfaces, no overlap.

Does filing a claim affect my Gish ID trust score?

Filing in good faith does not. Filing knowingly fraudulent claims does — and is also a criminal offence in every jurisdiction we operate in.

Ship the gift, not the worry.

Insurance is opt-in at checkout. One line, two clicks, then it's done.
